A new Radome (protective cover for radar antenna) was needed at this active RAF base.
A site investigation was undertaken involving window sample boreholes and dynamic probes, to establish the underlying ground conditions. Due to the location of the investigation and the sensitivity of the equipment in the surrounding area, increased consultation and precautions were required at this site.
Ground conditions were found to be sufficiently strong for the adoption of pad foundations. However, due to the sensitivity of the proposed structure, the amount of settlement with pad foundations would be unacceptable. Bored or augered piled foundations were therefore recommended.
